Autoliv lays the first stone of its plant in Aguascalientes

Autoliv, Inc. celebrated the laying of the foundation stone for its new steering wheel manufacturing plant in Aguascalientes .
The global company in automotive safety systems will invest around 60 million dollars to install its 30,000 square meter plant in the Finsa Aguascalientes Industrial Park and will generate around 3,000 direct jobs .
In the investment announcement, Kevin Fox, president of Autoliv Americas, stated that this expansion aims to meet the growing demand of its customers , so this new factory and the complex located in Matamoros, Coahuila, will allow them to provide a best world-class support.
In addition, this project in Mexico accelerates the digitization and automation strategy of the company, by including cutting-edge production processes.
"This investment will increase capacity, but will also allow us to optimize our manufacturing processes at both facilities and create exciting opportunities for our team members in Mexico," he said.
BEGINNING OF OPERATIONS
With the laying of the first stone, the construction of this plant begins , which is expected to start operations in January 2022 . Once enlisted, manufacturing capabilities will include armature casting, polyurethane and plastic injection molding, leather preparation and wrapping, final assembly, testing and development.
To highlight, the steering wheels are an integral part of the vehicle's safety restraint systems and play an important role in allowing the driver to operate a vehicle safely. Over time, many vehicle controls and driver warning systems have been mounted on the steering wheel to provide greater comfort and control over the vehicle.
Autoliv is the world's leading producer of steering wheels for passenger cars . It currently has 16 manufacturing plants and four technical centers around the world, producing more than 20 million steering wheels per year .
WORLD CLASS DEVELOPMENT
Sergio Argüelles González, president and CEO of Finsa , stated that the industrial developer is in charge of building the plant, so they are proud to be part of Autoliv's history, as it is one of the most relevant corporate projects.
Currently, Finsa operates 22 industrial parks in 70 different locations, in which around 400 companies are installed, generating more than 300,000 direct jobs, and of the total companies, 40% are from the automotive sector. In addition, the company recently announced the arrival of new investment projects in Mexico .
“In 2014 we arrived in Aguascalientes with the aim of creating one of the parks with the highest infrastructure standards, and for it to become a launching point for industrial developments in the Bajío. Today, this park has 13 operations, in which 3,350 people attend daily to work and that soon with the start of operations of Autoliv, there will be 6,350 collaborators ”, he stated.
Finally, Martín Orozco, governor of Aguascalientes, highlighted the creation of jobs and the economic benefit that Autoliv will generate in the entity.
"Aguascalientes is the Autoliv family, we are a bridge towards further consolidation of its leadership in the most competitive markets to continue saving lives with cutting-edge technologies," he concluded.
Also present at the event were Manuel Alejandro González Martínez, head of the State Secretariat for Economic Development and Teresa Jiménez Esquivel, municipal president of Aguascalientes, as well as special guests.
