Automotive production increases by 18.4% in December: INEGI

In December 2020, 254,251 vehicles were produced in Mexico, representing an increase of 18.41% compared to the same month of 2019, which had a total of 214,723 units.
The above was published in the Monthly Report of the Administrative Record of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), which collected data from 22 companies affiliated with the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA).
AUTOMAKERS REBOUND
Most of the automakers closed the month on a positive note, with a considerable increase in their production. Nissan closed with 47,367 units; FCA Mexico produced 39,601; KIA closed December with 18,646; while Toyota closed the month with a total of 16,507 cars. Audi Mexico generated a total of 13,287 vehicles; Honda with 10,862; Mazda produced 10,829; Mercedes-Benz closed with 7,765 and BMW Group assembled a total of 5,014 cars.
Meanwhile, Ford, General Motors, and Volkswagen were the companies that have not reached the production levels they had in 2019.
It is worth noting that, from January to December 2020, there was a production of 3,040,178 units, which represents a drop of 20.23%, in similarity to the same period of 2019 where 3,811,068 cars were assembled.
EXPORTS GROW
The information presented by INEGI showed that exports rose by 16.14% in the last month of 2020 by sending 275,081 units abroad, while in 2019, the figure was of 236,848 exported vehicles.
The automotive companies that benefited the most from this process were: General Motors, which exported 62,695 units; followed by Nissan with 39,915; Volkswagen sent 30,639; Toyota exported 16,621; Mercedes-Benz sent 14,269 units; Audi Mexico sent 13,723 vehicles; Honda was 9,488, and BMW Group exported 6,842 units.
Although FCA Mexico also exported many vehicles, it did not exceed the 2019 figure; likewise, the Ford, KIA, and Mazda brands decreased in shipments.
Mexico, which exports most of its production to the United States, included the automotive sector in its list of essential activities in the middle of last year to reopen under strict sanitary standards.
From January to December 2020, exports were 2,681,806 units, representing a decrease of 20.85%, compared to 2019, where a total of 3,388,305 vehicles were shipped abroad.
