General Motors will invest more than 1,000 million dollars in Coahuila to produce electric vehicles

General Motors announced an investment of more than 1,000 million dollars in its manufacturing complex in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, to start operations of a new Painting Plant with innovative technology, which is expected to be ready in June 2021.
Part of this initial investment will serve to prepare the factory for an expansion in the Assembly Plants and Global Propulsion Systems , with the goal of making the Ramos Arizpe Complex the fifth GM North America manufacturing site to produce electric vehicles , joining to Spring Hill, Tennessee; Factory Zero, in Detroit-HamTramck, Michigan; Orion, also in Michigan; and CAMI, in Ontario, Canada.
General Motors Ramos Arizpe has begun construction work on its new facilities, where electric vehicles of the automotive company brands will be produced starting in 2023.
Likewise, they will produce batteries and electrical components, beginning during the second half of 2021 with the manufacture of “Drive Units”, the propulsion system that powers electric vehicles.
Francisco Garza, president and CEO of GM, stated that they are proud to contribute to the realization of GM's Vision of Zero Collisions, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion , with the manufacture of electric vehicles.
“We trust that the necessary economic conditions will be met so that eventually the complex can grow the workforce one more shift in some operations. This is great news to continue celebrating GM's more than 85 years in Mexico and to show our commitment to the country, "he said.
General Motors' investment in Ramos Arizpe will also include improvements to the general infrastructure such as materials, dining rooms, medical services and recreational spaces, among others.
Alicia del Valle, executive director of Planta Ensamble Ramos Arizpe, emphasized that this manufacturing center is 40 years old and, since its inception, it was relevant to the corporation and emblematic vehicles have left its production lines such as Chevrolet Celebrity, Century, El Camino and Chevy , among several others.
"This manufacturing complex has fostered the development of talent and suppliers in the region and we are very happy to receive the new project that brings the future to the present," he said.
GM Ramos Arizpe will continue to produce Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Blazer, as well as Engines and Transmissions . It currently has 5,600 direct employees and, in addition to production for the domestic market, exports to more than 40 countries.
General Motors de México has been operating in the country for more than 85 years and employs more than 21,000 people . It has facilities in Toluca, State of Mexico; Silao, Guanajuato; Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila; San Luis Potosí, and its corporate offices in Mexico City.
