Only in these two facilities the company created 440 new direct jobs . The transformation of the logistics network of primary and secondary warehouses of PepsiCo México is part of an ambitious investment plan for 80,000 million pesos that the PepsiCo México System announced in May 2019 and has remained practically unchanged despite the challenging context that has presented the health contingency.
The service center mixing (SMC) of Puebla solves the logistical needs of 29 distribution centers and 15 clearinghouses product (CIP) of the food portfolio in the central and southeastern regions of the country.
Since its start of operations last June, it directly employs 310 people (of which 50% are women), including sales, staff and front-line workers.
This high-tech center will be an enabler to reach its clients faster in the states of Puebla, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Tabasco, Hidalgo and Chiapas. Regarding the supply chain, the SMC of Puebla will contribute to increase the storage capacity of the company with 17,000 pallet positions.
Investment in the state of Puebla represents the first logistics center of PepsiCo in Latin America with the highest certifications in sustainability (LEED Silver), accessibility (Distintivo A) and health and welfare (Fitwel two stars), to the house your food portfolio in one place.
For its part, the SMC of Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, will serve 35% of the wholesale channels and 50% of the self-service channels. It has 19 loading docks and its storage capacity is 9,210 pallet positions.
In turn, it will meet the needs of 13 Cedis, three CIPs and 10 SMC for the northwest region, with which it will have an important economic impact in the states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Baja California and Baja California Sur.
Likewise, it will supply products from the biscuit portfolio to SMCs in Nuevo León , Mexico City, Guanajuato and Yucatán, and will offer export services to the United States, Chile, Central America and the Caribbean.
PepsiCo México has a very important social and economic footprint in the state of Sonora, where it is a direct source of employment for more than 3,000 people. Only in the entity, its infrastructure includes 13 Cedis, two warehouses and two production plants.
Roberto Martínez, president of PepsiCo Mexico, said that from 2019 to date the company has not only invested in infrastructure, since its transformation plan is focused on the Mexican countryside with its sustainability and community development agenda with the PepsiCo Foundation .
The transformation of the warehouse logistics network of the company's food portfolio will take place through three processes:
- The creation of new warehouses.
- The improvement of the infrastructure and equipment of the current sites.
- The relocation of warehouses, to allow a closer approach to the market and thus establish synergies between the business units.
The strategic transformation gives rise to an economic spillover in the localities where the company operates. At the same time, it allows a reduction in CO2 emissions, since the approach to the market implies a significant reduction in the kilometers traveled on its daily routes.
Among its main objectives is to optimize logistics conditions to increase its levels of customer service , contribute to the transformation of the company with more sustainable operations and stay at the technological forefront in its operations.
Other towns that received investments this year are Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca; Valle de Bravo and San Juan Tlalpizahuac, State of Mexico; La Paz, Baja California Sur; Los Mochis, Sinaloa, and San Quintín, Baja California.
