Pirelli announced an investment of 15 million dollars over a period of two years for the construction of an Advanced Technology and Digitization Center for the production of tires at its Guanajuato Puerto Interior plant .
This injection of capital was foreseen in the Industrial Plan 2021-2022|2025 , and is added to the plan of 36 million dollars destined to increase the annual production capacity to 7.2 million tires in this entity.
This technological center will have an area of 6,680 square meters , which is added to the current area of the plant of 200,000 square meters located in Silao, Guanajuato.
This will be the first Research and Development Center of the Italian company in Mexico, which will incorporate state-of-the-art technologies for the production of tires designed for the mobility of the future, always more electric, sustainable and connected .
The Silao R&D center will help increase Pirelli 's technological and industrial competitiveness throughout the North American region, and enhance the Italian company's ability to serve and support premium brands, primarily in the United States.
For this reason, it will combine local talent, training and knowledge transfer, generating jobs for specialized professionals, in addition to creating connections with local universities.
The new Pirelli technology center will have as main areas:
- Modelling: Application of virtual mathematical models to predict vehicle dynamics.
- Testing: Development of new internal tire testing methodologies.
- Digitization: Adoption of digital practices for tire manufacturing.
- Cyber: Development and implementation of technologies that allow the tire to send essential information, such as pressure and temperature, directly to the vehicle.
- Specialties: Robotic application of technologies such as PNCS (tyre rolling noise elimination technology), oriented to future mobility developments.
Opened in 2012, the Pirelli plant has a production capacity dedicated to the local and North American market, where it employs more than 2,800 people.
Technological innovation is an essential element of the Italian company's strategy and plays a central role in the business model of the entire organization. For this reason, Pirelli annually invests around 6% of its revenue from high-value products in research. and development, which is why it stands out for having more than 6,700 patents . The R&D center in Mexico will be added to the 13 existing R&D centers that the group has around the world.
