Michoacán has a Harbor Industrial Park: the Lázaro Cárdenas industrial and commercial port, that has a leading international ocean access in the Mexican Pacific Ocean. The position of Port Lázaro Cárdenas allows access to the nations of the Pacific Basin and allows participating in the most developed international maritime transport chains.
The geographical location of the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas is a productive micro zone also known as the Balsas delta, where a great deal of port, commercial and industrial activity takes place, and which also has an attractive tourist port just 45 minutes away, that of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo; all of these are ports that make up an ideal complement for business and relaxation.
The micro zone of the Balsas delta, where the Lázaro Cárdenas port is situated, is also located in a strongly economic region, made up of the states of Michoacán, Guerrero, Querétaro, Mexico, Distrito Federal and Morelos. It is home to 33 percent of the country's total population and accounts for 42 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product and 49 percent of its manufacturing industry. The region has 31,581 kilometers of roads and 36,576 kilometers of railroads.
