Victoria is the capital of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, and is located in the northeast of Mexico, in the central part of the state, at the foot of the Sierra Madre Oriental.

The municipality of Victoria borders to the North with the municipality of Güemez, to the South with Llera, to the East with Casas and to the West with the municipality of Jaumave.

It has a territorial surface of 1,538.25 km².

The average temperature is of between 16 degrees as minimum temperature and of 30 degrees as the maximum average; the range of precipitation is of 400 - 1,100 mm of rain. It has a semi-warm and sub-humid climate; it is rainy in the summer, becoming semi-dry, very warm and with medium humidity.

In the summer, the temperature rises to a maximum of 45° C in the shade and in the winter, it reaches values of between 10° C and 0° C. There are few records of snowfall in the city, mainly in mountain areas, in places like "Altas Cumbres".

Six types of soil are easily distinguished. In the northern part of the municipality the soil is predominantly vertisol; in the central part it is Kastanonzem. Throughout the municipality, the soil is predominantly chemozem, phaeozem, luvisol and litosol in different quantities. As can be noted in the western zone, these soils are suitable for agriculture and livestock. Most of the land is dedicated to agriculture, taking advantage of irrigation systems. As far as tenure on a larger scale is concerned, the land belongs to the ejido regime and to small properties.
