The main economic activity in the municipality today is the maquiladora industry, which is undergoing great development. Nuevo Laredo has 9 industrial parks, in which 73 plants are established. Connection:
U.S.: FM 255T connects to Camino Colombia (toll) and FM 1472 (Mines Road). FM 255T was acquired by TxDOT in 2004 and has been in operation since November 2004.

PETROCHEMICAL

Tamaulipas is part of the Burgos Basin; which is the most important natural gas reserve - not directly associated with oil - in the whole country. The basin includes a large part of the Northeast (Nuevo Leon and Coahuila).

The Petrochemical Sector stands out in the area representing the generation of service goods; it is also a representative part in the high employment rates that benefit the population by providing salaries and excellent benefits.

Of the total surface of the state, 59% has hydrocarbon potential.

There are also railroad services, cranes and container terminals.

It has 11 Shipping Lines with weekly frequency and destinations to the East Coast of South America, Panama, Mediterranean, Middle East, Egypt, Gulf of Mexico, Europe, Caribbean, Colombia and the East Coast of the USA.

The Port is connected to 125 ports around the world through various shipping lines of regular service in containerized and loose cargo, the main destinations being in the Atlantic basin.
